Children are spending more and more time on screens - it's a good time to review with them how you expect them to behave when using technology. Here are some suggestions of what you may want to discuss with your child.
I interact with people I know in ways I am proud of.
I keep my passwords, personal info, contact info, and location to myself. I don't share this information about other people.
I am responsible for what I post and say online. My posts and comments are interesting, respectful, appropriate, and truthful; I never allow the internet to be a weapon to hurt others.
I only post images that are unaltered and I ask before taking photos or sharing anything from or about another person.
I am respectful of other people's lives and their privacy; I am patient and respectful in group chats and on message boards.
I don't let my tech disturb other people: I turn off notifications, sounds and alerts; I mute my devices to respect the people I am with.
I am respectful of how much time I spend on devices. I turn off my devices and leave them in another room when it is time to sleep. I don't send messages late at night or expect people to answer me immediately.
When spending time with family, I don't use my devices and I am present.
I use my own words, work, or photos and give credit when necessary.
I control how much time I spend online and on different screens.
I use technology to make my life better
and am careful not to let it come between me and others.
